Federal Government Contracting – Keeping Tabs on Procurement Opportunities To the uninitiated, the process of identifying, bidding on, and winning federal government contracts can be daunting. Even experienced government contractors aren’t immune from the many challenges that arise throughout the process. Anderson Jones, PLLC’s Government Contracting practice aims to help small and medium size contractors navigate through the process and ensure that they are not missing out on great opportunities.
At Anderson Jones, we counsel clients on eligibility for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s HUBZone program (Historically Underutilized Business Zones) and assist with obtaining the necessary certifications. Contractors participating in this program gain preferential access to federal procurement opportunities, which greatly enhances their ability to gain a foothold in the federal contracting marketplace. Additionally, Anderson Jones assists clients considering applying for the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program, which was developed to help small disadvantaged businesses gain opportunities to work on federal projects.
Obtaining the necessary certifications, however, is just the first step. Contractors must actively search for, pursue, and bid on projects. The size of the federal government is vast and at any given time there are countless projects available for bids. It takes effort to ensure that relevant projects don’t slip through the cracks. There are numerous services that compile data on the federal government market. However, many are expensive and unaffordable for small contractors and are not necessarily user-friendly. Anderson Jones has recently begun to use a new and helpful service created by GovTribe, Inc. in order to keep track of ongoing federal projects that may be of interest to its clients.
GovTribe is a federal government market research and software company, which mines contract and procurement data to provide unique insights and value to contractors with an interest in this market. Its product is an easy to use iPhone and iPad app that enables users to find, understand, and track government contracting activity. The app helps Anderson Jones and contractors who use it to keep tabs on procurement opportunities and provide information on government offices, agencies, and contract officers. Additionally, it notifies users when a new opportunity is released and allows users to research the competition to gauge the chances of success in the market.
