An Update on Laws Regarding Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors!
Amendment to Statute Requiring Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
By Victor A. Andy Anderson, Jr. Attorney
NC Senate Bill 77 was recently passed. After December 31, 2012, Landlords, when installing a new smoke alarm or replacing an existing smoke alarm, must install a tamper-resistant, 10-year lithium battery smoke alarm unless the alarm is hardwired (with a battery backup) or the dwelling unit is equipped with a smoke alarm combined with a carbon monoxide alarm that meets the same requirements.
Make sure you make these changes in the new year!
